How Not to Fire an M1

(Greenhorn stalls engine)

Low on steam, firebox full of unburned coal, M1 6813 stops at DOLA Coal Dock. Fireman Crosby is on the ground with a shaker bar punching coal out of the ash pan where the engineer, standing too close, gets a glob of grease on his ear. An argument follows. Finally with steam up, angry engineer at the throttle, 6813 starts east. It was a bad day-very bad. (2004)
